Sole-Mizo Plc., Medifood Hungary Innovation Ltd. and the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences have won a HUF 996.44 million non-refundable grant from the European Union for the development of milk protein-based food within the framework of the Széchenyi Plan Plus program, Sole-Mizo Plc. said in a statement.
The consortium aims to develop a special protein blend with a nutritional value exceeding that of whey protein, which is considered ideal.
The development of the protein blend would partly address the increased protein demand, which is a global problem, by providing a significant amount of high-quality milk protein, they said. The research and development project is expected to last three years.
As an initial step, Sole-Mizo experts have assessed the technological potential of the development and carried out sensory qualification tests; the university has tested 43 different raw materials for complete formulation, a process to increase protein nutritional value; and Medifood Hungary Innovation has created a calculator to determine the biological value of each protein.
