The establishment of the National Laboratory of Infectious Diseases will be implemented with HUF 3.3 billion non-refundable funding from European Union sources, with the University of Veterinary Medicine in Budapest leading the consortium, Széchenyi István University of Győr said in a statement on Tuesday.
In addition to these two higher education institutions, the Eötvös Loránd Research Network Veterinary Research Institute is the third member of the consortium.
The development is being implemented with the support of the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Plan under the Széchenyi Plan Plus program.
The establishment of the National Laboratory for Infectious Animal Diseases, Antimicrobial Resistance, Veterinary Public Health and Food Chain Safety is of major public health and national economic importance, the Communication said.
Hungary has a large livestock population, which makes rapid and effective detection, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases a priority.
The project will result in the commercialization of a number of unique and innovative products and services, which represent a niche solution in Hungary. Research results will be made public in the form of patents, depending on their nature.
