The number of job opportunities offering some form of home-based work has increased by 7% since May last year compared to the previous year, according to the latest analysis by Profession.hu.
According to a summary sent to MTI on Tuesday, looking at the jobs advertised over the past year, the most common atypical form of work continues to be home office, with employers mentioning this in 12.3% of job opportunities. Part-time employment remains in second place this year, accounting for 5.6% of all job advertisements.
80% of the positions advertised since May 2024 require traditional, eight-hour attendance five days a week. 7.7% of the ads specify work by schedule, 4% offer flexible working hours, and 2.7% indicate a two-shift system.
According to the analysis, remote work is most often offered in the IT sector. In the year prior to May last year, a significant proportion of home office positions were also available in the IT sector, and there has been no significant change in this regard. Over the past year, the opportunity to work from home was most frequently offered in positions advertised in the fields of IT programming and development, as well as IT operations and telecommunications, with nearly half of the former and slightly more than a third of the latter including such information.
Since May last year, after IT, home working has been most common in business support center jobs, with nearly one-third of these including information about it. In finance and accounting, the proportion of ads offering home office rose to 29% during the period under review.
Younger employees are more likely to apply for jobs offering home working. The largest proportion of these applicants are in the 18-25 age group (27.9%), followed by job seekers aged 31-40 (26.8%) and then those aged 26-30 (20%). Half of those applying for such job opportunities have a university or college degree, while 40% have a high school diploma as their highest level of education.
Non-financial benefits in addition to the salary package also play a significant role in job seekers' decisions, with the possibility of working from home being particularly important, according to Profession.hu.
