Tourism accommodations in Hungary hosted close to 528,000 guests over the fall school break, 3.5% more than during last year's holiday, Visit Hungary said on Wednesday. Those travellers spent 1,060,000 guest nights at tourism accommodations over the holiday, between October 23 and November 2.
According to a statement by Visit Hungary, the colorful landscapes, harvest programs, and wellness opportunities attracted many travelers again this year. Hungarian accommodations earned more than HUF 27.1 billion during the school break, which is 3.7% higher than last fall's vacation figures. The vast majority of guests, nearly 306,000 travelers, chose hotels, with 617,000 hotel guest nights accounting for 58% of total traffic. Within this, the four-star category proved to be the most popular, accounting for 61% of guest nights. Private accommodation also generated significant turnover, with 30% of guests staying in such establishments.
Budapest remained a popular destination with its colorful program offerings, with 39% of guest traffic linked to the capital. The 203,000 guests who stayed here generated 421,000 guest nights, 8% more than last year, bringing in HUF 11.2 billion in revenue for accommodations. Budapest was not only popular among international guests, but also among domestic tourists, whose numbers exceeded last year's figures by 17.5%, which was the most dynamic change during the autumn break.
