The number of guests at commercial and private tourist accommodations in Hungary rose 11.8% to 1,423,000 in December from the same month a year earlier, while the number of guest nights climbed 9.2% to 3,249,000, data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on Wednesday show.
The number of domestic guests rose 10.1% to 604,000 and the number of foreign visitors climbed 13.1% to 819,000.
The number of guest nights spent by domestic travellers increased 6.6% to 1,296,000, while guest nights spent by foreign visitors rose 11.0% to 1,953,000.
Visitors from Italy accounted for the largest number of guest nights: 181,300. Visitors from Germany spent 132,900 guest nights and visitors from the UK 129,900. Guest nights spent by travellers from Asia climbed 28.1% to 307,700.
Gross revenue of tourism accommodations rose 14% to HUF 103.9bn.
A total of 22,889 tourism accommodations hosted guests in December, including 20,759 private and other accommodations.
For the full year, the number of guests increased 7.3% to 19,548,000 from the same period a year earlier. The number of domestic travellers was up 3.2% at 9,667,000 and the number of foreign visitors rose 11.5% to 9,882,000.
Germans spent 2,912,700 guest nights in Hungary during the year, Brits spent 1,599,400 and Poles spent 1,598,000. Visitors from Asia spent 3,091,600 guest nights, up 18.8%.
