Spain, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom: these are the countries from which the most foreign tourists come, in that order. On average, they spend 3-6 nights in the capital, during which time more than 62% of them seek out cultural programs such as museums, festivals, and historical sites. 47% of visitors are between the ages of 25 and 44 years, and the vast majority visit Budapest for leisure tourism, according to the latest Turistamonitor research by Eventrend Group, reviewed by the news site 24.hu. The decisions of foreigners visiting the capital, from accommodation to gastronomy, are dominated by digital platforms.
Special dietary requirements are becoming increasingly important for foreign tourists visiting Budapest, who are looking for both modern and authentic experiences. The vast majority of them are satisfied with Hungarian hospitality and find the staff friendly, but they believe there is still room for improvement in terms of cleanliness and communication.
The survey involved guests from 139 countries, two-thirds of whom choose restaurants based on Google or Tripadvisor reviews. Most are looking for traditional Hungarian cuisine, but 40% of them follow a special diet (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or lactose-free) when dining out.The most popular dishes remain unchanged: goulash soup, paprika chicken, chimney cake, lángos (fried flat bread), pörkölt (stew) and somlói galuska (Somló trifle).
In general, 82% of tourists are satisfied with hospitality and service, but they mentioned cleanliness, communication in English, and the availability of information as areas for improvement.
The capital continues to enjoy a favorable international image, based on its historical elegance and modern lifestyle, but gastronomic experiences are also becoming increasingly attractive. The three most popular attractions are the Parliament, Buda Castle, and the Fisherman's Bastion. The research also shows that Budapest attracts both first-time visitors and regulars who return regularly. More than half of those surveyed were visiting Hungary for the first time.
